Recommended places to eat & drink

There’s lots of good places to eat and drink near Swallow Barn. We will send you our Guide which lists some of our favourites but in the meantime here’s a few:

The Gurnards Head is our local pub who have been looking after our guests along with The Tinner’s Arms – drop in for a pint at this cosy Cornish pub in the village of Zennor, once a favourite haunt of D.H. Lawrence.  Next to Zennor church which has the famous (pagan) Mermaid of Zennor carved on a church bench.

Ben’s Kitchen in Marazion has outstanding food and runs like clockwork

Tolcarne Inn  is Benn Tunnicliffe’s restaurant in Newlyn and comes recommended if you want to eat fish. His sister restaurant The Beach in Sennen is a great place to watch the sunset.

Things to see & do

Tate St Ives  Cornwall’s most celebrated seaside town has been a favourite haunt for artists since the 1930s, but it’s now home to some of Cornwall’s best galleries and restaurants – not to mention two of its top artistic attractions, the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum. We will even supply you a pass.

Newlyn Art School  good range of arts courses which are all taught by well known local artists.

Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange These galleries have free admission all year and offer a wide and varied programme showcasing the very best showcasing the very best of national and international contemporary art.

Minack Theatre is a world famous open air theatre which has a summer season from May to September, take a picnic for a fun night out.

St Michael’s Mountis the iconic landmark castle that rises out of Mount’s Bay

Land’s End 

Mainland Britain’s most westerly point makes the ideal place for a blustery stroll along the coast path, with amazing views all the way to the Scilly Isles on a clear day. The smart money will walk from Sennen on the coast path.

Geevor Tin Mine  This historic tin mine was one of the last to close in Cornwall, and it’s now possible to take an atmospheric guided tour of its murky shafts and tunnels – some of which extend for over a mile out to sea.

Sennen With a sweep of white sand and an attractive collection of cafés and galleries, this beautiful cove makes a great place for some paddling and sunbathing. It’s also a great place to learn to surf.
